Description
Goal of this project:
The original floppy disk drive of the MSX Turbo-R use a belt between the motor and the axis of the floppy disk to spin it right round.
Unfortunately this belt dry out and need to be changed after few years of use.
To get rid of this, it is possible to adapte PC floppy disk drive with direct drive motor, like it is done on Comodore Amiga.
Unfortunately the internal connector of the MSX Turbo-R is not a 34 pins arranged in two row of 17 pins.
So I've design this adapter for MSX Turbo-R internal floppy disk drive connector to PC floppy disk drive 34 pin connector.
This version was designed for tne NEC 1231H floppy disk drive since:
1/ I've got one. ;-)
2/ its eject button fit nicely with the dedicated "hole" in the MSX Turbo-R plastic case..
/!\ It may work with other PC floppy disk drive, please make sure that it will fit well in the MSX Turbo-R plastic case once closed.
/!\ And also check the eject button position of the PC floppy disk drive you plan to use! You may need to modify the MSX Turbo-R case.
Detailed step by step assembly of this project:
1/ You need to take care of the side on which the 34 pins connector will be soldered, check picture just below.
2.54mm 2x17 Pin 34 Pin Female PCB Double Row Straight Header link 1
2/ Solder the 24 pins connector like this:
FPC FFC 1.25mm Pitch Flat Cable Connector Socket Double Row 24 Pin link 1 link 2
3/ The power cable of the PC floppy disk drive:
- FFC FPC Flexible Flat Cable 1.25 MM Pitch 24 PIN Same Side 20cm (Aliexpress) link 1 link 2
- 4 Pin Molex to 4 Pin Floppy PC Power Adapter Connector Cable for Floppy Drive FDD 20cm (Aliexpress) link 1 link 2
4/ Mounting the adaptator:
5/ Closing the MSX Turbo-R plastic case:
/!\ start by the right side and make sure the eject button of the floppy disk drive fit gently
/!\ Also take care on the PAUSE key and the 4 direction keys next to it ! Make sure the case is not forcing on them.
And lastly finish by the left side of the case,
Return the computer upside down and place and tight the scews.a
Enjoy! :-)
