Description
This is based on the 1977 overdrive one circuit (od1) - There are some modifications to consider that differ greatly from the original - firstly - all of the binary switching circuitry has been omitted - you can still wire up the circuit for buffered bypass through J12, but it will only go through the output buffer, it will still work just as well - however this was an after thought as it was intended as a volume bypass mod with or without a switch. Some people just crank the od1 and turn the drive down, but it really shines as a 70s overdrive since the only discrete circuitry used was in the flipflop circuit. It's a purely ic driven circuit including the buffers which is a breath of fresh air in a sea of discrete/opamp based overdrives. The od1 sings with an incredible growl and dishes up the heavy metal when stacked - you will throw away all of your distortion pedals after playing through this vintage overdrive. The original Japanese NEC chips (the ones used before they went to the raytheon chip) in my opinion sound better than the raytheon and they are far less expensive - but if you are like me and still want an original raytheon as a collector, then prepare to spend 30 bucks or so. I got like 10 nec chips for like 6 bucks. So take your pick.
