Description

This is an EXPERIMENTAL design, it is unproven and the software doesn't supported it yet!

For my OnStep telescope mount controller (visit my [group][1] for more information.)

**Note: For non-commercial use only (see License terms, CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0)**

This design is built around the Teensy4.0 and supports the most important features while keeping the same small size and a similar layout to the MiniPCB v2.

  • There's a power jack, fuse, and power switch connection.
  • There's a USB Port.
  • There's provision for an XAIO ESP32-S3 device for WiFi etc., this gets firmware uploaded through its onboard USB-C port.
  • There's a RJ12 modular connector that can provide Gnd/5V and general purpose I/O on this connector (defaults to PEC/Limit/Reticle.)
  • There's a RJ12 modular connector that can provide Gnd/5V and general purpose I/O on this connector (defaults to ST4 interface.)
  • There's two stepper drivers (one for RA/Azm and one for Dec/Alt.)

Unlike the MiniPCB v2 this device adds the following new features:

  • Supports nearly any StepStick driver including Legacy, TMC-SPI, and TMC-UART.
  • Uses JST-XH2.54 connectors where appropriate.
  • Supports I2C and has onboard provision for FRAM NV memory.
  • Onboard mini speaker.
  • The two RJ12 modular connectors RJ3 labeled "ST4" and RJ4 labeled "Aux" each have Gnd, +5V, and four GPIO pins with 2K pullup resistor (and optional ESD protection using a diode clamp device.)
    • The connector RJ3 GPIO pins are routed to the Teensy4.0 (OnStepX) and the connector RJ4 GPIO pins are routed to the ESP32-S3 (SmartWebServer.)
    • These eight GPIO pins can optionally provide some combinations of:
      • ST4 port, encoder inputs for servo operation, TTL Serial, or CAN BUS on RJ3.
      • Encoder inputs for pointing, on RJ4.
      • Sense inputs for Limit, Home, and/or PEC on RJ3 or RJ4.
  • Optional - Step and Dir connections on both Axis1 and Axis2 have PWM capability for DC motor based servo operation.
