Description
This is designed for use with OnStepX as a telescope focuser controller only using these 3D printable focuser motorization housing and configuration files. It can be connected to and configured over WiFi/IP. The USB-C/Serial connection also allows for connections and/or firmware upload.
- The voltage regulator at U2 is an OKI78SR5 or one of these.
- Many StepStick form TMC2209s should work just make sure the PDN pin connection on the module is present as indicated on the silkscreen. For example I used a FYSETC TMC2209 v3.0. I expect the v3.1 and v4.0 would work too.
- Hand solder ribbon cable between this PCB and a WeMos S2 Mini microcontroller paying close attention to the spacing of the PCB's in the 3D Printed housing. The pins to connect to on the WeMos are clearly identified on the back of this PCB.
- This also requires stepper motor connections and a 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel power in connector. I removed the extra contact on the power connector (only 2 of the 3 are needed) and carefully rotated so the contacts can't touch this PCB. There is no internal fuse in this design, it is up to the user to add appropriate protection on the power supply cable.
- For TCF functionality you need a thermistor input and 3.5mm stereo mini connector wired in as well.
The above connectors get installed into the 3D printed case after (or as) the PCB's slide in.
I mounted the 20:1 gear reduced 24 step stepper motor (obtained from eBay though similar motors are commonly available) on top with M2.6 x 10mm screws.
The cover over the WeMos S2 Mini microcontroller was mounted down with M2.3 x 16mm screws.
Depending on the focuser you intend to install this on you will probably need to design and 3D print a mounting adapter (to hold in place) and drive adapter (to couple the shafts.) The mounting and drive adapters I used for the EdgeHD8 are included in the files linked to above.
