PCBImporting from EasyEDA standard to Pro seems to break net names and connection between Schematic and PCB

I have a huge problem with this because I just spent several hours updating a PCB layout after importing a project. I then went back to the schematic to make a minor change to a component footprint, and then found that the "Update|"Update/Convert Schematic to PCB" appeared broken. At first, the update seemed OK, but then I noticed that there were 100s of DRC errors because the tracks were no longer connected to any of the nets.
I attempted to fix this by going "backwards" and updating the schematic, so that the net names would be copied from the PCB back to the schematic. However, this only made things worse, and now when doing an "Update|"Update/Convert Schematic to PCB", there are 100s of component deletions, followed by re-addition of new components that use the same name. These components are placed in a giant ratsnet and are unable to be re-connected to the existing PCB layout.
Is there any way to recover from this situation? And is there some critical additional step that needs to be done when importing to avoid this situation in the first place?
