I would like to see a clever perf-board option while transforming a schematic into a PCB. 

I think it is a valuable step in between while designing any PCB. In my opinion it would act as follows:

- define dimensions of board (auto dimensioned by default)

- place components (ratlines show traces to be realised)

- draw traces, automatically adding every pad crossed by any trace to the relevant net (opt-out possible)

Similar could be thought of for a breadboard layout, differing in pad connections: they would be grouped in colomns or rows.
