Hi, I'm working with the MPM3610AGQV-Z and MPM3610AGQV-P power modules and encountered an issue with a recent PCB batch.

  • First Batch: Used MPM3610AGQV-Z on a 2-layer board—worked fine.

  • Second Batch: Used MPM3610AGQV-P on a 4-layer board—short circuit between 5V out and ground. No circuit changes were made in the power circuit.

Through debugging and discussions with JLCPCB, I found that removing the MPM3610AGQV chip clears the short circuit. The datasheet indicates that the two center pins should not have pads or connections, but they appear to have been connected (or perhaps I solder bridged them during disassembly).

Questions:

  1. How can I remove the unintended pads in the stock footprint to prevent this issue?

  2. Could these pads be the source of the short circuit?

  3. My understanding is that -Z and -P refer to packaging and not the chip itself. Can anyone confirm this?

Would appreciate any insights—thanks!
