Description
TOP227 SMPS Project
It is possible to use other ICs from the TOP22X series with almost no changes to the rest of the circuit.
This power supply provides output voltage regulation, short-circuit protection, thermal protection, feedback line disconnection protection, and many other built-in safety features integrated into the TOPSwitch chip.
The transformer parameters provided are for my specific case. In your setup, they may differ depending on the application and magnetic core. The snubber circuit on the primary winding should be calculated individually for each transformer.
Transformer assembly process:
Start by placing the first half of the primary winding onto the bare bobbin, then apply 3–5 layers of insulation.
Next, install the full secondary winding and insulate again.
After that, add a feedback winding with 2 turns and cover it with insulation.
Assemble the transformer core halves, secure them with Kapton tape, and glue them for extra reliability.
At the final step, connect the end of the first half of the primary winding to the beginning of the second half — forming a tap. This tap is not used in the circuit; insulate it and ignore it.
IMPORTANT: All windings must be made in the same direction (for example, clockwise).
IMPORTANT: Follow the correct winding start points. On the schematic and PCB, the start of each winding is marked with a dot.
The power output in my case is around 90–100 W, but higher power levels are also possible (refer to the TOP22X datasheet).
Good luck!
