Description
Public spaces in cities make room for citizens to meet and mingle. With social media in place, people find a home for socialising in online chats and on digital platforms that prevent serendipity from taking place in the urban setting. Smart cities, Media Architecture and the design of Media Facades push towards an experiential environment in public space. Issues such as technology integration, scalability and affordances in the context of urban design and government management are at the centre of the Media Architecture design discourse. Critics call for less screen based experiences while hoping to see concepts that steer away from rigid architectural structures. The Ballooino Media Balloons PCB aims to explore how appropriating familiar objects combined with embedded systems design can lead to the creation of experiential public spaces that invite citizen engagement. We position this research as a collective effort to thrive in the area of Human Computer Interaction which places people at the centre of the research and design process.
