Description
This project uses an Arduino NANO as a programmer for the ATMEGA chips. You can program either an ATTiny or a 28 pin ATMega chip. I built it for the ATMEGA 328P and the ATTINY 8 but it should work for any ATMEGA chip with the same pinouts. The crystal and caps are not mandatory, but they make the programmer more stable.
To use the programmer, you simply remove the jumper and upload the Arduino as ISP sketch into the NANO. Then, you reconnect the jumper, insert eith a 28 pin ATMEGA chip or an 8 pin ATTINY chip and then you upload your sketch using Arduino as ISP.
I've used this programmer dozens of times and it works flawlessly. Using a ZIF socket reduces the potential for damaging pins vs using a standard socket.
