Description

More details in an upcoming YT video (will add the link when done editing).

This is an active power splitter/divider/doubler meant as an addon for any lab PSU to produce symetrical output voltage, eg. split 30 V into +-15V for various power projects (audio amplifiers etc.).

This splitter is designed for total maximum voltage of 60 V (eg. Riden PSUs) and maximum peak virtual ground load of 6A on any voltage. (maximum current is limited mainly by inductor saturation, it can be modified to support higher current at the cost of maximum allowed voltage)

It can work both as a splitter/active divider so producing two half voltages, or it can also work as a doubler, passing then input voltage through and producing the other voltage from it.

In splitter mode, the lowest voltage it can split on its own is 12V, but when provided with external 10 - 15 V power, it can go down to zero (with greatly reduced efficiency). Splitter mode efficiency is typically around 90 % or as shown in the following graph: (+ext means that external power is provided, positive current means load on the positive split rail etc.)

In doubler mode 12V is again required for startup and can be afterwards reduced to 6V, external power again eliminates this problem. Doubler moder efficiency is greatly reduced and output loading should be lower (3A max).

Splitter mode output impedance (of the virtual ground) is low and stable acros frequency:
