Description
A simple DIY Proton Precession Magnetometer using the nuclear magnetic resonance of hydrogen nuclei. The electronic part of the project contains a polarization driver for polarizing the measurement substance before measurement by exciting a polarization coil with the aim to align all proton spins in the coil's strong magnetic field. Afterwards, the coherent proton precession in the external magnetic field induces a measurable signal into a second coil, the measurement or pick-up coil, with a signal frequency directly depending on the magnetic field strength with ~42Hz/µT. The signal is coupled out differentially, amplfied and filtered. The output can be inspected using headphones or connected to sound card for further DSP processing. An Arduino Nano controls coil excitation and amplifier gains.
